McGruff Literacy and Citizenship Program

During October, Crime Prevention Month, the Pinebelt Association for Families (P.A.F.F.) teams up with the local police and elementary schools to present the program to all first, second and fifth graders.

A police officer, disguised as McGruff,  accompanied by  law enforcement personnel, and P.A.F.F. volunteers visit each grade classroom during October to  talk with students about crime prevention, safety, using good judgment and how to respond to negative peer pressure.

McGruff revisits the classrooms right before Christmas break to present a personalized hardbound book McGruff And Me to each of the previously visited classrooms.  The story features the child’s name and his/her friends and talks about citizenship and community safety.  P.A.F.F. works with businesses and community and civic organizations to bring a book to each classroom.  No child is left out!.
